Preparatory actions and elaboration of action plans

A1. Mapping new yew populations and forest and ecological inventories

The project brings up to date the existing information and discover new locations in the yew that were not inventoried. 39 yew forests have been inventoried of 10 ZEC spaces, a total of 287 ha in areas with yew presence and 83 ha of dense yew forests.

- Barranco del Tillar, Barranco de Torneros and Baga de la Pena yews in the Natural Park of Poblet (Montañas de Prades, ZEC ES5140008)
- Rincón de Guasch in Montsant-Pas de l’Ase mountains(ZEC ES5140017).
- Sierra de Llaberia yews (ZEC ES5140009)
- Areas with yew presence in Tivissa and Vandellòs (Tivissa-Vandellòs-Llaberia, ZEC ES5140009).
- Cosp yews in Rasquera (Sierras de Cardó – el Boix, ZEC ES5140006).
- Los tejos (Benifallet) in Sierras de Cardó – El Boix (ZEC ES5140006).
- Areas with yew presence in Puertos de Tortosa (Sistema Prelitoral Meridional, ZEC ES5140011).

Mapping and forest and floristic inventories have allowed to know in detail the current state of conservation of yew and plan conservation action to perform.

A2. Specific management plans for each area.

Define and identify conservation actions to develop in each area of activity.These plans are protocols as technical conditions to be followed by the project management and operators to ensure the proper implementation of conservation work.

A3. Stewardship agreements with private property

Voluntary agreements by landowners of the properties of land to conserve, establishing commitments for both parties addressed to maintain or restore the natural or cultural heritage of the property subject to these agreements.

In the context of Life Taxus, the agreements enable the managers of the project to carry out conservation actions for the yews in private lands in Alta Garrotxa and the Llaberia Mountains, guaranteeing their conservation over a long period of time.

In total, 59 agreements signed, with different management modalities: 26 stewardship agreements and 33 authorizations for conservation work. Of the 26 custody agreements, 23 of them are to support management and 3 to transfer management through the constitution of a real right.
